We’ve always known there was something special about Crickhowell, which is why we’ve had a branch in this picturesque part of the Brecon Beacons. The team are also celebrating as interest in this wonderful town has increased since it was named as boasting the best high street in the UK.
Being one of the last towns in the UK to be free of major retailers, the high street is full of independent shops and beautiful boutiques and even boasts Wales’ first zero-waste shop, Natural Weigh. As you wander around you are met with a wonderful blend of historic shop fronts, but it wasn’t just this that caught the judges’ eyes. The Great British High Street Award judges were also swayed by the strong sense of community that’s alive and kicking in Crickhowell.
“Crickhowell is a fantastic example of a community that has made huge strides in transforming its high street. The town’s tourism website advertises the high street as one of the ‘few shopping streets left’ in Wales, where ‘local businesses selling local produce recall a long-lost era when all high streets reflected the character of their town’,” said awards judge, Hemlata Narasimhan.
